Custom Foot Orthoses

What are they? How do they work? And how are they made?

Custom Orthotics

  • Custom foot orthoses are those designed and created specifically to an individuals foot. We take a 3D scan of your foot, once assessed we send a script to the lab where they are manufactured for you. They can be tailored for a variety of factors:

    • Foot shape and structure

    • Biomechanics (eg. muscle strength, patterns, mobility)

    • Footwear

    • Mode of activity (Running, walking, cycling etc.)

    • Current or previous injury

    • Goals (eg. performance, injury risk or management)

  • Biomechanics:

Orthotics are designed and prescribed to alter your gait (walking or running) and foot posture to allow for more efficient movement patterns. This aids in reducing strain and fatigue on soft tissue, joints and bone. This can differ greatly between individuals, emphasising the importance of being assessed by a professional.

    Pressure Distribution:

Orthotics are not just for those with ‘flat feet’, they are excellent at managing pressure injuries (eg. corns, Mortons neuroma, bursitis). They do this by evenly distributing weight pressures both static and in motion., through a customised individual prescription.

    Injury Management and Performance:

We commonly prescribed orthoses for elite and recreational athletes, to manage injuries, improve performance or prevent this risk of injury.

Not an athlete? Do not stress, we are able to prescribe for those of any age and any level of performance.

    Paediatrics:

Orthotics for kids are very common. This is because at a young age we are generally more mobile or even hyper mobile. This makes flat feet more common in children, causing aches, strains and growing pains. Orthotics counteract this mobility by introducing a rigid and stable platform and in turn reducing painful symptoms.

  • There are a variety of functions orthotics can offer and that it what makes them so unique and diverse in their application. It’s for this reason they are prescribed by our experienced and qualified Podiatrists.

We suggest you book an appointment with one of our experienced Podiatrists to have yourself assessed. Thiis is strongly suggested for those suffering with pain or injury and those with mobility issues.

Manufacturing

Our orthotics are sourced and produced by Australian owned Footwork Laboratories founded by Artur Maliszewski. Using the 3D scanned images of your foot taken in clinic, we are able to send a specific script to the lab for an accurate orthotic to be constructed via 3D printing.

Materials

  • 3D printed nylon shells with accuracy in printing of 1 micron

  • Optional top covers of varying softness and materials relative to your preferences

  • Additional add ons and variations dependent on your needs

Design

  • A full biomechanical assessment is conducted to ensure the orthotics works for you

  • Our scripts are only manufactured by Certified Podiatrists in the lab

Functionality

  • Custom devices achieve this with much greater respect compared to off the shelf devices (eg. Chemist)

  • Tailored to your foot these devices are comfortable and highly effective
